The Bishop's Palace and Earl's Palace are commonly visited together. Revisit them whenever you like through this official souvenir guidebook. The palaces are at Kirkwall, on the island of Orkney. They represent Scotland's links to Norse history.
The two palaces stand close to St Magnus Cathedral, and Kirkwall was an important seat of power during the 12th century. A succession of Scottish earls owned and occupied the palaces over several centuries. The buildings are some of the finest remaining Scottish Renaissance architecture.
